Iranian rower Mohsen Shadi Naghadeh has advanced to the A Final at the Senior World Rowing Championships held in Linz, Austria.

The 20-year old Shadi reached the final stage when he came in second after hitting the finish line in 7m 13.90s on Friday.

Italian Olympic medalist Lorenzo Bertini came first with 7m 12.25s while Greece's Ilias Pappas stood in third place finishing in 7m 15.82s.

The Japanese, German and Spanish rowers were omitted from this group and entered the B Final.

Bertini, Shadi and Pappas advanced to Sunday's Final to compete with the top three rowers from another group and each gained medals.

The talented Iranian, Shadi, made history last week when he snatched his country's first international rowing medal, in silver, at the world under-23 rowing championships in Germany.

The Iranian national has only been rowing for 10 months under the guidance of former Romanian Olympic coach Nick Gioga.
