TEHRAN: Afshin Ghotbi again took charge of Iran champions Persepolis on Wednesday, more than two months after ditching the Reds for personal reasons.

Ghotbi, who succeeded to get the silverware in his first stint in Iran, did not specify the reasons for his change of heart after overseeing the team’s first pre-season training session.
“I had decided not to return after leaving Persepolis because I wanted to do what I could not do in the last seven years. The club owners had some serious discussions with me which prompted me to change my mind,” he said.
“I am delighted to be back and I can see a very bright future for Persepolis,” said the 44-year-old Iranian-American.
Persepolis clinched the title on the last day of the season under his guidance with a thrilling 2-1 victory over rivals Sepahan.
The team will fly to Dubai for a five-day training camp starting on July 25 to prepare for the new season starting on August 5.
