BEIJING- (IranSportsPress.com): Iran’s Hamid Soryan failed to win Iran’s first medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics, after losing twice in the 55 Kg Greco-Roman wrestling on Tuesday.
Soryan who was the hot favourite to win gold in the 55 kg category, lost to Russia’s Nazir Mankiev in the third round. The Iranian had another chance to win Bronze after beating Kristijan Fris of Serbia 6:1, but he lost to Korea’s Eun-Chul Park, and finished 5th.
For the past four years, Iran's Hamid Soryan had indisputably been the most dominant wrestler in this class. He won three World Championship titles (2005, 2006 and 2007) in a row, plus two consecutive Asian Championship gold medals (2006, 2008), but like many other Iranian athletes he failed when it really counted.
