The African champions were scheduled to face Iran on the 20th of August.
"The Egyptian foreign ministry told us to reconsider playing the match," Zaher told Dream TV.
"They did not oblige us to cancel it, but we decided to call off the match."
Egypt's shaky relations with Iran took a fresh twist after the emergence of a new Iranian documentary over the assassination of former president Anwar Al-Sadat.
The documentary film was deemed offensive by the Egyptian government senior leaders.
