ISP Exclusive - Interview with Sebastian Deisler

IRANSPORTSPRESS.COM: First, we’d like to congratulate you for winning the German Bundesliga and DFB Cup this year.

Sebastian Deisler: Thank you very much

IRANSPORTSPRESS.COM: What are your goals for the next season?

Sebastian Deisler: I need to get fit again so I can play. My injury takes time.

IRANSPORTSPRESS.COM: You now have had the opportunity to play with all three Iranians. What is your opinion on Ali Karimi?

Sebastian Deisler: He is a nice guy. I like him very much. He is sympathetic and a very good player. He does moves that other players at Bayern wouldn’t be able to do, which makes him a unique player compared to the others. All three players I have played with, Vahid Hashemian, Ali Daei, who is great at heading the ball and Karimi are fantastic players. With that potential, Iran will bring more great players onto the market; it is just a matter of time.

IRANSPORTSPRESS.COM: In the beginning of the year, you played with Bayern in Tehran, Iran. What is your opinion about Iranian football?

Sebastian Deisler: I have already played in Iran twice and it is fantastic, especially the fans. Around 100,000 spectators attended the game and it was a fantastic moment.

IRANSPORTSPRESS.COM: Ali Daei once said that you were a good friend, would you like to visit him one day?

Sebastian Deisler: I spoke with Ali when I was with the German national team in Tehran. He came to our hotel and visited me. It was nice to see him again.

IRANSPORTSPRESS.COM: Are you planning on watching any of Iran’s games in the World Cup?

Sebastian Deisler: First, I will go on vacation and relax. However, I will be watching the German games and see how they play. Besides that, I will have to wait and see from time to time.

IRANSPORTSPRESS.COM: How far do you think Iran will go in the World Cup?

Sebastian Deisler: Iran has a chance to get past the first round. The first game is the most important game.

IRANSPORTSPRESS.COM: What do you think about their opponents, Mexico and Portugal?

Sebastian Deisler: They are tough teams, especially Mexico. They run a lot and it is hard to keep pace with them. It really depends on the situation. Iran shouldn’t hide themselves and play defensive. They can go to the round of 16.
